Fruit Smoothies

I am totally crazy for fruit smoothie as it has become my routine breakfast menu.  Home made fruit smoothie is incredibly nutritious and very filling.  It provides the energy needed to start a day and also abundant nutrition along with it.  It is the best bang for your calorie and monetary buck!  It’s an excellent choice to be included in the  vegan diet menu.

Regardless if you like to try fruit smoothie to begin your day, the major point to be noted is that never skip breakfast.  Numerous studies strongly link skipping breakfast with being overweight and lacking the ability to concentrate.  In the morning when you wake up, your body awakens in low gear and needs fuel to help you start your day. Your blood sugar has dropped, your metabolism has slowed, and your pistons aren’t exactly firing at their optimal level. By eating nutrient-dense food, you create a foundation from which the rest of your day can be built.

If you don’t like the fruit smoothie, a cold beverage for your breakfast, another good choice is scramble tofu that I tried on my first day of vegan diet.  But I strongly suggest to give it a try on the following easy fruit smoothie recipe for vegan.

Trio Fruit Smoothie

Blueberry Smoothie

YIELD: ONE 16-OUNCE GLASS

  • 1 or 2 ripe bananas, preferably frozen chunks from the freezer
  • ½ cup or more frozen blueberries
  • ¼ cup frozen strawberries
  • ¼ cup fresh orange juice
  • ½ cup nondairy milk (soy, rice, almond, oat, hemp, or hazelnut)
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter or other nut butter
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds

Mango Smoothie

YIELD: ONE 16-OUNCE GLASS

  • 1 or 2 ripe bananas, preferably frozen chunks from the freezer
  • ½ cup or more frozen mango
  • ¼ cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • ¼ cup fresh orange juice
  • ½ cup nondairy milk (soy, rice, almond, oat, hemp, or hazelnut)
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds
  • ¼ cup nondairy yogurt (optional)

Green Smoothie

YIELD: TWO 16-OUNCE GLASSES

  • 1 or 2 ripe bananas, preferably frozen
  • 1 or 2 apples, quartered (not peeled)
  • 1 cup pineapple chunks
  • ½-inch piece ginger, peeledchunks from the freezer
  • 2 or 3 pitted dates
  • 1½ cups cold water
  • 2 loosely packed cups spinach (or kale, chard, or other greens)
  • ¼ cup juice (apple, pineapple, orange)
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds

For each fruit smoothie, add all the ingredients to a blender and mix until thoroughly blended. Any blender will work, though a high-powered one, such as a Vitamix, creates the smoothest, creamiest consistency.

 Wheat-free, soy-free if using soy-free milk
